He carried him

Hey everyone! Its good to be able to get my thoughts down for this week! Had a few things happen that I wanted to share with everyone. I have been reflecting a lot this week on the choices/decisions that have brought me here, along with the wonderful examples I've had in my life! You know who you are ;) This week was a rebuilding week for the squad, and what I mean by the squad is our teaching pool. We have several of our investigators who are now super solid and are moving a long nicely. We have a lot of complicated situations with each investigator, another trial in which I am truly grateful for. We had lessons this week with Holly, Kenny, Melissa and her two boys, Christian Penaloza, and a new come'r to the squad, Dave. Dave is awesome! He's been a die hard Catholic all his life, and has really been searching the scriptures lately to find some direction in his life and of course we come a knock'n!! I have truly found love for each of these individuals and the up coming weeks for each of them is going to be a little tough, but I have no doubt that they have been guided to this defining moment in each of their lives, and a mighty change of heart will soon come!

I wanted to share an empowering experience that happened this week that has changed my view and, I hope, the course of my life. The Lord is with those that serve Him. To set the stage, in our kitchen, we had an ant infestation almost overnight. I want to believe that it wasn't by any of our doing but it was by the weird warm/ cold weather that we continue to have. Mother nature can’t decide if its spring yet! Haha! Anyways, we had a dilemma, that needed to be taken care of, and it was my mission to destroy each on of these little creatures that were in my kitchen. I looked in every crack, every little place that I thought they could hide and I sprayed them with ant killer. (dun dun da dauh....this is how the music would go if I lived in a movie) As I had sprayed the whole kitchen, I waited for a little while sitting on the floor for anything else that moved. Can you picture it? Haha! After about 15 minuets, I was about satisfied that all was taken care of and the chaos that was once in our apartment had finally subsided. I left to go get ready for bed and I came back out, like I do every night for my nightly swig of chocolate milk ;) before I brush my teeth of course...And it was there that I saw it on the counter, another ant, but this time the ant was not just crawling around looking for food like ants normally do, but he was carrying one of his ant friends that had passed on, he was carrying him. At this moment I was taught something of eternal significance, and I could not control my emotions. There were other dead ant bodies all around this lone alive ant and he was carrying his friend, to his ant home. Now I'm not sure these two ants even knew each other before the "massacre" and I assume they did not, but still he loved his fellow ant and was carrying him back to his home. Now the doctrine that is of eternal significance in which I learned is that God sent his only Son to save us all, but if He had to perform the atonement for just one, He would have done so. We have all heard the poem where a man and the Savior are walking on the beach and the man only sees one pair of footprints in the sand at one point, and he asked the Savior where he went? When I needed you the most? And the Saviors reply was, "this is where I carried you." Now I know that we are not all dead like the ants, but we are in experiencing trials and we all need His help. It is vital that we have His help for our spiritual survival and arrival into our Heavenly Home. Brothers and sisters this moment that I had is hard to explain in words but it was a moment of clarity for me that Jesus is the Christ, and that he carries me daily, just like He carries you too, but you have to let HIm. Will we reach out, and in some of our cases will we let Him carry us? He is there. I love Him and am grateful for someone who loves me even more right back! I wish everyone knew of His love for them! "shall we not go on in such great a cause?" These things are true, and I say this in the name of our Savior, even Jesus Christ, Amen.

Have a great week!
Elder Shouse
