Elder Parkinson

Hey everyone!
Another super awesome week here in Susquehanna! Seriously awesome!
Elder Parkinson and I were on fire this week! We picked up 8 new investigators and we put Diana and Tony on date for baptism for the 11th of next month. Their family is so awesome. They have so many questions every time we go over and we love being able to study with them and answer their questions to the best of our ability.
I had a very special experience this week with a lady named Jean. Jean is someone we have been trying to get in with since I got in the area but every time we have come to the door she has never let us in. We went to her house on Saturday and we said if she turns us away again that would be it, but she let us in! We taught her the restoration and she came to church on Sunday! Miracles happen! She loved it and we have another appointment later this week with her - love this work!

D&C 122:7-9
7 And if thou shouldst be cast into the pit, or into the hands of murderers, and the sentence of death passed upon thee; if thou be cast into the deep; if the billowing surge conspire against thee; if fierce winds become thine enemy; if the heavens gather blackness, and all the elements combine to hedge up the way; and above all, if the very jaws of hell shall gape open the mouth wide after thee, know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good.
8 The Son of Man hath descended below them all. Art thou greater than He?
9 Therefore, hold on thy way, and the priesthood shall remain with thee; for their bounds are set, they cannot pass. Thy days are known, and thy years shall not be numbered less; therefore, fear not what man can do, for God shall be with you forever and ever.

So this week one of our investigators asked us the question why do bad things happen to good people? I had an answer for him when we originally talked, but I went home and studied the topic that night, and these scriptures are what I came up with. We should all know by now that the devil is going to do all that he can to tempt us, each and every day. Often times we feel we cannot handle situations. Same goes with bad things that just happen, and we say there is no way we can go on. Understand that along with Satan trying to bring us down, we are also at the mercy of other people's agency, their freedom to choose. I will tell you this situation to give some context and situation. Our investigator's brother passed away a year ago for no reason, his wife, the doctors, and all those around him were so confused as to why he had passed away. He was so angry with God, he told us what a great man his brother was and "God had no right to take him away." For everyone who has lost a loved one, can probably relate on some level, but I would like to go back to the scripture above. "My son, that all these [trials] shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good...Therefore hold thy way." Hold thy way, is what Heavenly Father is asking us to do, as we endure, we become stronger. Now I said a few things about other people's agency, and their right to choose. Sometimes things happen that we cannot control. Sometimes things happen for no apparent reason known to us, but only to Heavenly Father himself. Why do bad things happen to good people? I don't know... But what I do know is that all these trials will help us grow, help us progress, and once we are on the top of our own figurative mountain how great will the view be as we look back at the things and trials we have been able to overcome! "Thou therefore my son be strong in the grace that is Jesus Christ." (2 Timothy 2:1)
I feel like I have been talking a lot about trials in my emails, and I am sorry if anyone feels it is repetitive, but I have been prompted that someone needs it, and whomever that is, I hope you know I am rooting for you and praying for you. But more importantly you have a Father in Heaven that is rooting you on every step of the way. Seek him more often and you can find comfort.
I love you all hope you have a great week!
