Subject: A Rainy Week

The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
Numbers 6:24-26

Dear family,

This week was alright. I feel like it rained a lot, so it was harder to go finding. It rained all day Thursday and Friday, which is unusual for Michigan. Usually it rains a little here and a little there, but this was non-stop. It was pretty unfortunate.

We haven't been able to see Joy or Ryan. We can't get in contact with Ryan, so we aren't sure what will happen with him. Joy keeps canceling on us last minute, and last we heard from her she said she would call us. So the ball's basically in her
doesn't seem like we're her highest priority, so we will see what happens.

Francis relapsed, so he has to start all over with the no smoking thing. I feel bad for him. Addictions are hard. We are still working with him and encouraging him to keep doing his best. He will get the Priesthood soon! I believe in him.

We got to go on exchanges this week. I went with my boi Elder Wade. Elder Wade roomed with me in the MTC, so we already know each other. He's a cool guy, we had a good time. I think he's definitely ready to go home...he's pretty much checked out right
now. Being with him made me kind of trunky! I think I've just accepted the fact that I am somewhat trunky. I'm told it's a normal thing, so it's all good.

For church yesterday we had a regional broadcast from Salt Lake. It was broadcasted to 132 stakes and 6 districts here in the North America Northeast Area. The speakers consisted of: Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Presidency of the Seventy; Sister Bonnie
H. Cordon, 1st Counselor of the Primary General Presidency; Elder Anthony D. Perkins of the Seventy; and Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles.

It was a really good broadcast, I especially enjoyed Elder Gong's talk. He spoke about blessings and how we should be thankful for them. It stuck out to me because I've honestly been pretty discouraged lately. I feel like we are working hard and nothing
is really happening. We aren't finding people to teach, which makes life as a missionary difficult (that's also why this email is kind of boring, cause not much is going on in the area).

Because of these difficulties, the talk was inspiring to me. Elder Gong quoted Hymn 241:

When upon life's billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings; name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

And I like what it says in the 2nd verse:

Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings; every doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by.

Thinking of that made me realize how many wonderful things I have to be thankful for! There are so many I can't even count them all. With so many blessings I am now "singing as the days go by", despite the challenges in this area. So, hopefully I will
have better news next week! As President Hinckley has said, "You haven't failed until you quit trying". I think he said that anyway.

Well, have a good week! I love and miss you all!
