Elder Durling & Elder Shank

Mexico Ties

A really cool thing happened this week while on exchanges with the Spanish Elders. We got to go to a members home and share a message with her and turns out she is from Tapanatepec which is an area that was right next to mine in southern Mexico and I got to visit that area quite a bit when I was down there!!! Her eyes lit up when I mentioned I had served right near there in both Zapata and Ixhuatan. We then had a wonderful talk about the delicious food and culture down there in Mexico. Meeting her was no coincidence and I am so grateful to have spoken with her and get a little remainder of my time living in Mexico.

This weekend was a very exciting on for my companion Elder Shank because he got to go to the Temple and make promises with God that will forever shape and bless his life as he keeps them. I didn't get to go to the temple with him but he got to see his parents which is really cool and go with them.

Another milestone this week was I officially have crossed a year in the mission! What a year it has been! In these past 12 months I have learned that...

-Families are the most important relationship in this life and is central in Gods plan of happiness
-There is a life after death and those we love are not lost or gone forever and its because of Jesus Christ that we will see them again.
-Jesus Christ loves everyone of us regardless of what we look like, dress like, vote like, nothing can block the love of Christ.
-The Book of Mormon is the word of God and has taught me many plain and precious truths that have richly bless my life.
-There is always hope
-God listens to us and answers our prayers

I have loved being a missionary for a year and look forward to another year of teaching people Jesus Christ lives, loves us, and will lift the weight of sin and sorrow.
