#34 Conferencia General

WHOOOOP General Conference this week. It is way better as a missionary and you just hear things differently so all the missionaries get super pumped this time of year.So again, Im going to give this scripture. 9 And these are the words which he spake and caused to be written, saying: My brethren, all ye that have assembled yourselves together, you that can hear my words which I shall speak unto you this day; for I have not commanded you to come up hither to trifle with the words which I shall speak, but that you should hearken unto me, and open your ears that ye may hear, and your hearts that ye may understand, and your minds that the mysteries of God may be unfolded to your view. So this was more or less the first General Conference. This is how it starts out, and how the Prophet (King Benjamin) tells his people to prepare to hear his words. They all gathered attentivly with their tents. Even though it was written so people could read it later (like todays times) the people left their haouses and went so they could focus on the words and not be distracted, or sleep, or be busy with chores while listening. I talked to the Stake President here about it and he gave some good insight. That this was the only talk in History that changed the people. There hearts were touched, they had no more desires to do evil, but to do good continually (Mosiah 5). They were prepared, and where they needed to be and it brought a great change within them. If we prepare ourselves, and lsten attentivly, the same can and will happen with us. We will feel an overwhelming spirit and it will cause us to change for the better. So we basically went from canceled appointment to canceled appointment this week, and no one does anything when it rains so we call people or do paper work, or plan activities for the future. So not much happened. We have two people preparing for baptism:Darwin Encalada.19 years old. He reads his scriptures everyday cause he likes reading, and came to church yesterday.Elvira Huaman: 72 and single with a few kids and grandkids in Quito. She wants to understand and grow to be close with God. She has some required service with the neighborhood, so a majority of the Sundays she can't come to church. If she misses it she pays a fine, and doesnt have much money. Also her understanding is really low and we kinda lose our patience teaching her. We have taught her the Restauration 3 times and this week I was talking about Joseph Smith and ask what she thinks of him and she responded by saying "Is Nephi or Momon older" I was so confused. I don't know why in the world she was thinking about that, maybe from reading the introduction. She reads a lot in the scriptures every night.Monica Grijalva who was baptised two weeks ago is in Alma 15 and reading like crazy. So we were kinda bumbed all week with canceled appointments and doing nothing all week, but it got better: Here is a portion of it I wrote to a friend"We contacted a lady and her 8 yr old daughter almost 1.5 months ago, and she kinda shewed us off so I told her we dont just preach but we also offer service and English Classes. Her Duaghter loves Ingles so they have been coming to that and our other activities that we had with the ward. Her Husband likes the Church but heard talk about numbers and how we need to baptize more so he wants to come and be a dry member (be a member without being baptized)... We have only visited them 3 times cause they kinda dissapeared last month for a while, but a week ago the mom asked us about baptism and what she has to do to be baptised. We told her one of the requirnments is to be married so they can go to the temple and recieve even more blessings. Two days ago she came to the ward Activity and told my companion that she talked with her husband about it, but he doesn't want to get married so she is kinda stuck. She even canceld her work on Sunday and brought her daughter to church and said she loved it. The primary is awesome with the daughter and we are going to visit the daughter on her birthday this week with the Primary. It has been so cool to see them progress, and see how much the mom and daughter want the Church. Hopefully the Husband will feel the need to get married soon.Honestly this week was kinda rough and nothing was going our way and I was losing my desires and encouragement so I was praying for some miracles and Hope. AND IT CAME. It really lifted my spirit to see that happen with this family.”So just that for this week. HAVE AN AWESOME GENERAL Hallsted
