Elder Brunt

Elder Ben: Happy December

It's great hearing from you guys. There's a lot to do down here, and I'm not sure how I'll ever go back to just sitting around and wasting time. On some P-days, I just want to get back to work. With Elder Brunt, our work has become more organized. Sometimes this means a little less time in the street as we update teaching records or prepare for lessons, but we're doing it, and then when we are working in the street, our successes are more condensed.Today we had a small miracle. This is how I shared it with our mission president:I'm feeling a little burnt out, but we're getting a lot done, and it's great! Elder Brunt's way of doing things is different, and I enjoy the change. We had our companionship inventory the other day, and it was great! We decided that though our relationship was strong, we could improve with practicing the language, following a more structured schedule, companionship study, and helping eachother develop as missionaries, so we set some goals and are going to try to accomplish them! This P-day our cards weren't extracting money, and we got a little worried. We walked a lot, were rejected by several machines, and were about to spend a week eating very sparingly (or losing time to find a bank during the week). As we gave up and went to the ciber, I prayed knowing that God knew what we needed and would help us. After several blocks, we saw an ATM sign and were able to extract money for the month! I know that if we try to follow the rules, God will help us and provide a way for us to be obedient. It was a fun little experience.I also read Helaman 5 in my personal reading, and I can testify that the scriptures are inexhaustable in their teaching value. I learned something from the walls of the prison, which I was not expecting. They trembled, but they didn't fall, which goes with verse 12: 12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall. If we trust God, the world can tremble, thunder, and threaten us all it wants, but we won't fall if we found ourselves on Jesus Christ. Keep reading. No matter how many times you've read the Book of Mormon, you can always learn something new. I've found it helpful to frame everything with a question I have. My question for the last several months has been how I can align my will and my thoughts with those of God. It's been awesome! No snow here, but it was sort of windy the other day, so we wore sweaters and pretended we were four thousand miles north. It was fun.¡Hasta Luego!¡Feliz Navidad!Elder Sheffer
