Gualeguaychu, Argentina

Elder Nick Mortensen

Second week in Argentina

It sure has been an adventure being her so far!
We have been put in lots of good teaching situations. We already have someone with baptismal date for February 5th. His name is Laotaro. He is 11 and his mom is a lady that is trying to get active in the church again. The best way to start is getting her son baptized! This has gotten the two of them coming to church together and learning a little more about the gospel. Laotaro is actually already pretty learned in what we are teaching him so he soaking it all in like a sponge. We would have liked to have set a closer date but we set it to where it would be more comfortable for him and his mother in the end.
We also have another awesome family that has been making leaps and bounds toward baptism. The Missionaries have been working with them for a long time and they are just about ready to take that big step of baptism. They dont have a common last name between them so they are just called Diego's family. We ended up having a family council with them last week that really helped them refocus on their common goals as a family. We are really excited to see them all in white one of these days. They are working on getting a baptismal date right now and I think they will have one within the next few weeks!
It has been fun having an english speaking companion after so much time without one I must say! I forgot what that was like after having a whole bunch of them at the beginning of my mission and then switching to pure spanish speaking companions for about a year after that. I have realized how bad my english has gotten!
It is a real blessing to be out here in Argentina. This is by far the strongest branch I have been in my entire mission. There are members that are willing to leave with us, lunches, an awesome branch presidency that is always looking out for the good of the people here.
I also broke a 9 month long streak last sunday... For the first time in 9 months I did not have to give a talk in Sacrament Meeting. It was really weird. I felt rather out of place sitting in the congregation with nothing to do except listen.
We had to stay in the other day because my companion got really really sick! It was kind of scary because he was having some really crazy migraines. He is ok now but I was really worried about him. We went out and worked that morning and he got really sick. We think it came from the rain but we arent so sure because it just came onto him so fast. Well that day I was left alone sitting in the downstairs study room while my companion slept off his sickness and I ended up getting so bored that I cleaned and then reorganized the house about 4 times before deciding that the orginal way that we had it was almost perfect. I then moved just about everything back to where it was in the first place.
I went a little crazy being locked "alone" in a house for seven hours...
Well in a nutshell that has been the week. We are going to be doing some traveling this week to do house inspections. So that will be cool to see all the other areas in our zone. It should be lots of fun!
So that is the rundown for the week! I love you all so much!
Have a fantastic week! Thank you for reading!
