yeah i have been trying to read the book of mormon in spanish but i have no idea whats going on. and thank you for the package! the spanish for dummies has helped! and that spanish on the go is terrible but its helping too! weve got the apartment labeled in spanish now. the spanish is coming along slowly. but its coming.
so to answer your question in your letter, im not really sure if ft. smith is prone to tornados. its one of my flatter areas, so i could see it happening. and we havent really had any bad weather since ive been here, we had one thunderstorm but thats been about it. but apparently theyre calling for some severe weather this week. some potential for tornados! its been a pretty quiet april for severe weather so its been interesting.
we do have quite a bit to do here its just frustrating cause the ward isnt really that involved or wanting to get involved. theyre all just sitting around twiddling their thumbs. theyre fairly content with the way things are going. out of our 800 people we have about 3 people that are trying to help. and none of it is coming from the top which is our issue. its the executive secretary and a couple guys serving in the young mens. not getting much help or any at all from the ward mission leader, bishop, ward council, theres just not a push, and as long as its not a priority, its just not going to work. im not complaining, im just saying like thats the situation right now and thats really all there is to it. its going to be hard but there needs to be a change.
oh oops, i accidentally sent that, oh well, i guess ill just end it then. thank you for the package! love you!
oh and yes, elder sosa went home for the funeral. he flew home on friday and is arriving back out here tonight. president called us on wednesday and informed us and asked us to pass it on to the district leaders to let their districts know and to pray for him and his family. thats such sad situation. but i hear its all going well.

It's certainly sounds like you have work to do which is not a bad thing at all. Did you get the package I sent to you? I couldn't quite decide on what Spanish things to get for you. Most of it was for people that are going on vacation and needed to ask for directions and order food in a restaurant. I didn't think that was what you really needed so I settled for what I got for you. One thing I did want to pass along to you was something someone at work shared with me. Her name is Jeanette and she is the director at West. Anyway she went to a Spanish speaking mission in Texas. She said that what helped her the most was to read the Book of Mormon out loud everyday. She said it helped her to be able to say the words better and that there is something magical about the Book of Mormon. She said magical but I think it is the Spirit that is helping. I thought that was really good advice so I wanted to pass it along to you. Also my stash of Cadbury eggs has now run out so I won't be sending anymore unless I see some somewhere. Harmons had them all last year but I didn't see any yesterday when I was there. Dad thinks you are probably getting tired of them anyway.
Josh was at church today. It was so great to see him. He told me he was working at Back Country now and seems to like it a lot. He also told me about a golf team he is on. His work schedule is pretty good so he will have time every afternoon to do things like that.
It was Elder Pack's mother that said that he had served in Fort Smith so apparently she gets confused also.
How is the new area? It does sound like you will be very busy. How is the Spanish coming? Are you working with any investigators or less active members? I also heard that Elder Sosa's (he is serving in Cassville) father passed away. Have you heard anything about that? The moms from the Arkansas Bentonville Mission would like to do something for him or his family. We just aren't sure what to do yet. I did send a text to Sister Sherwood but I haven't heard back yet. Do you know Elder Sosa? Do you know where he is from or if he is going to go to the funeral? I think it is pretty sad.
Victor's mom was in a car accident on our street this week. The Bott's had a load of gravel delivered to their house and it was in front of their house and she ran over it. The kids came over to get us to see if we could help them. Dad was at a High Council meeting but I went over anyway. I had no idea what to do but I could tell there was a leak in the radiator. I had the kids get the Salazar's but they couldn't really help either. John also thought it was the radiator. Then Brandon from down the street came over and he knows about cars and he said it was probably the radiator. Victor's mom was so upset I felt so bad for her. Victor's dad was working out of town. I think the car is fixed now because they are driving it again.
I went to a class for work this week. It was a ten hour class that I needed to get my money from the Career Ladder award. I only have to get one a year now thank goodness. There is no way that I have time to do more than that anymore. I used to go to those all the time.!! Carolyn was in Hurricane last week so I didn't have Lucas at all. She came home on Friday but I don't think I am going to have him this week either. She is only teaching days this week.
Dee is coming down this week and we are going to go to the Tulip Festival. I haven't been for a few years so I am excited to go again. Also McKell is having a baby. She is due in November. They are all very excited. This will be the first baby of the next generation. It is pretty fun.
I am so excited to talk to you on Mother's Day!! It is only two weeks away now so I am wondering if you have any info on when we will be able to talk to you. I know it's still early but I wanted you to start thinking about it soon so you can tell me next week when you email. Do you know any of the members there yet? I guess Elder Jensen probably knows them since he's been there for awhile.
How has your weather been? It is starting into the tornado season again so be careful!! So far I haven't seen any tornado warnings in your area but you can never tell. I think I heard that you have had some bad weather there.
I am once again hoping for some pictures but if not that's okay. Where do you email these days? Do you go to the library again? I have run out of stamps and forgot to buy any so I most likely won't mail you a letter this week.
I want to share the closing paragraph of Elder Holland's conference talk. I really loved that talk.
"If gospel standards seem high and the personal improvement needed in the days ahead seems out of reach, remember Joshua’s encouragement to his people when they faced a daunting future. “Sanctify yourselves,” he said, “for to morrow the Lord will do wonders among you.”12 I declare that same promise. It is the promise of this conference. It is the promise of this Church. It is the promise of Him who performs those wonders, who is Himself “Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, ... The Prince of Peace.”13 Of Him I bear witness. Of Him I am a witness. And to Him this conference stands as a testament of His ongoing work in this great latter day. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen."
Take care of yourself, read you scriptures, work hard and stay focused on the work and pray always.
I will love forever
