We had a p-day straight out of Kung Fu Panda at the biggest Buddha in Taiwan!! I was loving it. Then we were able to get some "banana cake" which is really what we Americans call BANANA BREAD!!! Just like momma used to make 'em. Sort of. Super delicious though.
Well, this week was Sister Chen's week!! We went to eat dinner with her husband and cute 2 year old daughter. I was kind of nervous about it...her husband's 3rd generation in another Christian church and didn't want have any sort of bashing...but the Spirit just whispered to me that it'll be okay. We don't have to force anything, just gain his trust. It went well!
Sister Chen got baptized on Saturday and confirmed on Sunday! She has taught me so much from her faithfulness. She feels and recognizes the Spirit and then goes to act on it, no matter the opposition she faces. Her baptismal service was such a happy, spiritual experience for everyone there. Our ward was very excited because it's been awhile since they've had a baptism so everyone rallied around her to support her. Really sweet to see.
I came home after the service and was just kind of overwhelmed with an emotion I couldn't quite put my finger on. My head was killing me and I was SO exhausted, but THAT wasn't quite it. I was eventually led to Doctrine and Covenants 18:15 replacing some of the words with my own "And if it so be that [Elder Barker] should labor [for 5 months] in crying repentance unto this people of [Xiao Gang], and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father!" That was the answer! JOY. It's a happy message!
Christ lives! His atonement is EVERYTHING. Anything else in the church is an appendage to it. I came across this quote from Elder Bednar this week that I love: "He can reach out, touch, and succor -literally run to us- and strengthen us to be more than we could ever be and help us to do that which we could never do through relying only upon our own power." I know it's true!
