Week 16_Another Week from a "Preacher Guy"
Hola everybody!
I hate to let you down, but it was a lackluster week! Not much to
report. But, we still had some highlights, which I will share!
Most of this week, we have been walking around Brooklyn, trying to
find more people to teach. And this weekend, all the trains, the main
way we get around, were shutdown. So we have walked all over! Good
thing is that we can see a lot of Brooklyn! I love it!
We had a few lessons this week, mostly with less active families, and
those were all great! We are meeting with one sister who was baptized
a few months ago, and she is getting ready to go to the temple to do
baptisms!
Something a little sad though, is that those two people we found and
taught a few weeks ago won't answer our calls! It is sad for us,
because both of them are amazing, and we had wonderful first lessons
with them! Hopefully we can contact them soon. And also, hahaha, we
had a weird experience last night. Another recent convert in our ward
hasn't been to church for a few weeks! We had called to see if
everything is okay, but she never answered. So last night, we decided
to go over to her apartment to check on her. As we approached, we saw
a lady outside, but she kind of hid from us. We thought it was her,
but we went inside. We knocked on her door, (she lives with her
sister) and made sure everything was alright. But, her sister said
that she had moved out, and hadn't even told her where she was moving
to! Then we explained that we think we saw her outside, along with a
few bags. She thought it was a little fishy as well. Then, as we went
back out, there was a van picking her up, along with her bags. But the
lady we were looking for was hiding from us behind the car, with her
hood up. My companion was persistent though, and said we should go
help with the bags. As we went over, the lady got into the van and
slammed the door! We are still a little confused, but hopefully
everything is okay, and we can see her soon.
I have a few funny quotes from the week!
The other night, we were walking around, and we passed a young black
guy, and wished him a good night. He seemed a little taken aback, and
as he passed us, he replied, "You too, preacher guys!!" Hahaha that
made my night.
Also, I gave a talk in church yesterday, my first talk in Spanish! I
thought it went well, but who knows! Afterwards, one of the young
women in the ward came up to me and said, "Good talk. That was pretty
good for somebody who's not a native speaker."
Hahaha I wasn't sure how much of a compliment that was. I'm glad it
was good, but I want to speak super good Spanish! I have really been
focusing on that this week. I am trying my best to learn from and
understand those around me, then, when I speak, teach, and testify, I
can do so with more power.
Last of all, we went to Brooklyn Bridge Park today! My companion took
me there, in it was beautiful! It is at the edge of Brooklyn, and you
can see all of Manhattan on the other side of the river, as well as
the Statue of Liberty in the distance! I'll attach a couple pictures,
and some graffiti we saw. Haha I found some old Mormonads this week,
I'll attach one of those as well.
That's it from me! I am learning and loving, more and more every day!
I am so happy that I am here in Brooklyn, sharing the good news of the
gospel. Life is good, and God is too.
Have a fantastic week!
Love,
Elder Weisler
