Farewell Talk

Introduction of what my timeline is going to be like.
Tell story of how I decided I wanted to go on a mission.
Tell story of how I felt when I opened my mission call with how personal revelation has helped me to see that this call is what I needed.
As a young man Joseph Smith had questions that he could not find answers to. He set out looking for truth in every place that he knew how. He tried to find answers in teachers, in different churches, people he met around town, and in the scriptures. none of these places could answer his question of which church to join completely but the scriptures led him to a way that he would be able to receive an answer. During his scripture study Joseph read, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." Joseph took these words to heart and on a spring morning in 1820 when Joseph as 14 years old, he went to a nearby grove of trees and knelt in prayer. From these actions Joseph was then visited by God the eternal father and His son Jesus Christ. They then conveyed the answer to Jospehs question that none of the churches on the earth at this point were true and that he should join none of them. They then instructed him that he wold bring forth the true and living church in the next years to come. This is pare of the first lesson that is taught to new investigators by missionaries. It is. instrumental in gaining a testimony of the gospel not only because it is the event that led to the church being restored but because it teaches how one can gain further understanding and knowledge. it teaches how each and every person can gain personal revelation about questions in their own lives. When missionaries are teaching somebody they are not the ones that convert the investigator even though they are teaching them about the gospel. For the investigator to truly become concerted and live the gospel they have to gain a testimony for themselves. This is done by receiving personal revelation from the Holy Ghost and gaining a confirmation that what they are being taught is true. So how do we receive personal revelation? First, we have to have a question that we want answered. We also have to have faith that the Lord will reveal the answer unto us. Then we have to do the work. We are not going to blindly ask and then miraculously receive an answer without putting in any effort. We have to show that we care enough and desire to know truth before we can receive an answer. Just like Joseph Smith - he had to search many different places before he got to the path that would lead him to the answers for his questions.
